Here's another reason to go to the NY Rally!!
On that Friday, the Union Square Greenmarket will be there on the North and West Sides of Union Square park.
Think a fun flea market, craft fair, and produce market all combined into one with an international variety of foods available!!!
(think brunch items BEFORE the Rally and after! I personally am a sucker for Funnel Cakes!)
The Lyme Rally will be located at the South Plaza of the square, closest to 14th Street and Union Square West (those are streets).

To get there once in NYC, You can take 4,5,6 Subway train from Grand Central Station (42nd Street near Park Avenue) – Subway number 4 or 5 it's one stop downtown. Or #6 it's 4 stops going downtown.
Personally, I am a BUS kind of Gal and the buses will get you on even if you are disabled! They even "kneel" or fold out a ramp!

Note on NYC streets: In NY City - For the most part, Streets run East and West. Avenues generally run North and South. In Manhattan, you are either East or West of Broadway, New York City's main street
Port Authority Bus Terminal (if coming to NYC by bus to there) is at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. To go by NYC bus to Rally you could walk down 42nd Street to Fifth Avenue or you could take the 42/M42 bus over to Fifth Avenue and transfer (to below).
From 42nd Sreet and Fifth Avenue, for example, you would take the 1, 2, 3 or 5 bus (M1, M2, M3 or M5) DOWNtown (one way street) and get as close to Union Square as you can, then walk over (the park is between 17th Street and 14th Street - ask the driver where to get off for 14th street).
At the end of the day you would want to go UPtown by catching the 1, 2 or 3 buses on Park Avenue, which is on the opposite side of the Park. This would take you back to 42nd Street.
If coming by train, into Penn Station, I would still walk over to Fifth Avenue, then proceed as above.

AMTRAK comes from many states except Long Island and regional NY) into Penn Station at 34th Street and 7th Avenue. (Long Island and regional NY train folks go into Grand Central)
All in all the transportation system in NYC is good.
They've also just approved a SmartPhone way to call taxis, besides standing at the curb with raised arm.
